Camp Verde is the largest farming community in the Verde Valley. Camp Verde has everything you’d want in a small town. Camp Verde also has two streams. The Verde River and Clear Creek, both have good fishing. The Verde River is popular for canoeing, tubing and kayaking. Real Estate prices are similar to Cottonwood.

Camp Verde History
Camp Verde is the earliest European community in the Verde Valley. Camp Verdes history dates back to the early 1860’x. The first settlers were miners who came to the Verde Valley for it’s wealth of minerals and ore. The US Army first established a temporary outpost that overlooked the farms the farms at West Clear Creek. In 1865, a second post, Camp Lincoln was built. Soon the name was changed to Camp Verde. Due to a Malaria outbreak, the post was moved to it’s present site in 1871. In 1878, the name was once again changed, this time to Fort Verde to signify a permanent installation. Fort Verde was active from 1871-1891.
In 1970, the city of Camp Verde requested the historic site be established as a Historic State Park. Now, the site consists of four adobe building. One of the buildings is a museum with exhibits and displays that feature life on the western frontier.
